Removal of skin lesions and tattoos

Surgical removal of moles and other skin lesions, skin biopsy, radiofrequency removal of smaller surface lesions and surgical removal of tattoos. The method is chosen by the surgeon after the consultation. A lesion suspected of not being harmless is removed surgically, in its entirety, and sent for histopathological analysis. The radiofrequency method is used for smaller surface lesions that the doctor judges to be harmless. Surgical tattoo removal leaves a scar, and larger tattoos are sometimes removed in several stages. The price depends on the size and number of lesions.

More about this procedure

Removal of lipomas and atheromas

Removal of lipomas (non-cancerous lumps of fatty tissue), sebaceous cysts (atheromas, small pockets under the skin filled with thick material) and other growths of the skin, the tissue beneath it and the face, usually under local anaesthetic. An inflamed sebaceous cyst is usually treated first and removed in full once the inflammation has settled. The removed tissue is usually sent for histopathological analysis to find out what kind of growth it is. Removal of lipomas and sebaceous cysts under general anaesthetic is also listed in the general surgery price list.

Scar revision

Covering a skin defect with a graft (skin taken from another part of the body) or a local flap, more complex reconstructions using tissue flaps, and surgical scar revision. This group also includes injection treatment of keloids and thickened (hypertrophic) scars. Scar revision does not remove a scar but makes it less noticeable, and a keloid can come back.

Frequently asked questions

Does mole removal leave a scar?

Surgical mole removal leaves a scar, because the skin is stitched. The scar is usually longer than the mole itself, because the skin is stitched in a line. The surgeon plans the incision so that the scar is as inconspicuous as possible, usually following the natural lines of the skin. The scar usually fades and becomes softer over a few months to a year, but in some people it can become thickened or raised.

Is the removed lesion sent for histopathological analysis?

A lesion or growth that is removed surgically is usually sent for histopathological analysis. Examination under a microscope shows what kind of lesion it is and whether it has been removed completely. With radiofrequency removal, the tissue usually cannot be analysed, so this method is intended for lesions that the doctor judges to be harmless. Some items in the price list are marked “bez PH” (without PH), so ask at the consultation whether the analysis is included in the price and how it is paid for.
